Bray cutting it fine to return for latest Rotax Round - From Kartsport NZ

Kiwi karting international Daniel Bray was cutting it fine to return home in time for this weekend’s YÖGG Rotax Max Challenge of New Zealand series round at Tokoroa – last weekend he was in Germany contesting the opening round of the 2013 CIK-FIA European Championship meeting for KZ1 and KZ2 class karts.

It was important for the 25-year-old Aucklander to get home though, he scored a breakthrough win in the premier Platinum Glass 125cc Rotax Max Lights class at the third round of this year’s challenge series at Te Puke last month and is now third in the series points standings in the class, just seven points behind second placed Mathew Kinsman and only another eight points shy of leader and defending class title holder Daniel (Mathew’s younger brother) Kinsman.

Bray also had to fly in from overseas for that meeting, having contested the opening two rounds of SuperKarts USA’s Pro Tour in Arizona the weekend before.

“I’m definitely seeing a lot of the inside of aeroplanes, “the current New Zealand Open class champion said before boarding the flight earlier this week which would eventually bring him home last night for this weekend’s Rotax round.

This year’s YÖGG Rotax Max Challenge of New Zealand boasts some of the biggest fields yet seen across the three Rotax Max category classes with over 50 drivers chasing the four places on a team which will represent New Zealand at the 14th annual Grand Finals event in New Orleans later this year.

In the other classes, the drivers to watch out for in Arai Helmets Junior Max will be points leader Dylan Drysdale from Palmerston North, Marcus Armstrong from Christchurch and Maddison Wise from Hawke’s Bay.

Meanwhile, in Logitech 125cc Rotax Max Heavy and the Masters (32+) class which runs concurrently, Brendon Hart from Palmerston North and Stuart Marshall from Auckland are split by just one point with Te Puke Heavy class winner Shane Hodgson back in fourth in the Heavy class standings but looking a likely podium prospect again this weekend.

This weekend’s YÖGG Rotax Max Challenge of New Zealand round is the fourth of six with subsequent rounds in Hawke’s Bay in August and Auckland in September.
