The battle for supremacy at the Race of Stars between the international KZ2 pilots is on in earnest, with defending Champion Davide Forè grinding out a hard fought heat one victory in the six-speed gearbox category on the Gold Coast today.

17-year-old Dutchman, Marijn Kremers carried his good form from the European season to the Xtreme Karting Complex to place his Ricciardo Kart on the pole position. He and Fore put on a clinic of precision racing around the track which saw drivers eclipse 160 kilometres per hour.

A surprise third position was JC Kart Australian, Jason Faint. Suffering from an eye injury, Faint scorched his way to third position showing the benefit of a recent trip to the World Championship with mentor, Jon Targett.

Kyle Ensbey made it two CRGs in the top four coming home in fourth position.

In KA1, CRG’s James Litzow has taken both victories so far today, but it is by no means a walkover. He has been pushed constantly by the dynamic Luke Grasso and James Adams, while Brett Robinson is recovering after an engine drama in qualifying to shape his weekend well coming into the finals tomorrow.

James O’Sullivan has been another quick driver but no luck has gone his way, not finishing the first heat then finishing at the back of the second after an off-track excursion while battling in the top group.

Benjamin Finch took out the opening heat race in the over-subscribed KA TaG category, whilst the remaining group heat races were shared between Chris Farkas took a win as did Kiwi Matthew Kinsman and Jack Black.

Multi-Australian Champion, Brendan Nelson dropped back in the opening heat with a small technical issue, however the Queenslander was back on it in his second heat today.

The category is poised delicately with any number of top runners in line to take victory once the groups are combined for the Final tomorrow.

Tomorrow, heat racing and finals for senior classes will be conducted, along with the full program of Junior racing.

A number of V8 Supercars stars were on hand at the track today including James Courtney, Scott Pye and Scott McLaughlin. Tomorrow there will be a special “V8 Supercars Shootout” involving Scott McLaughlin and Tim Slade who started their career in karting and as part of the preparation for the Castrol Gold Coast 600 next weekend.

On-track action begins at 9am tomorrow with everyone chasing the coveted surfboard trophy!
