As the 2011 CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE nears the half way mark the battle is heating up for the impressive list of prizes that are on offer.

In addition to the honour of having their names sit alongside the likes of Jamie Whincup, Mark Winterbottom, Ryan Briscoe and Tim Slade on the respective perpetual trophies, the winners in each of the Pro categories will receive funding towards an overseas event in their respective category.

This funding (to the value of $10,000 per champion) was last year used by Pro Gearbox (KZ2) Champion Matthew Wall to compete at the SuperNationals in Las Vegas and Pro Junior (KF3) Champion Pierce Lehane to compete in the WSK Nations Cup.  Pro Light (KF1) Champion Cian Fothergill will be competing in his first overseas event later this year courtesy of his series win in 2010.

The second and third place getters in the 2011 series will again receive a significant prize pool with the runner-up in each of the categories receiving their Dunlop race tyres free of charge for the 2012 series.  Third place in the championship will receive free entry to the 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series for the category of their choice.

All of these prizes are allocated to the competitor who has competed in the 2011 series, unless otherwise negotiated with the International Karting Committee by the first round of the following season.

Along with the winners in each of the Pro categories, the victors in the Yamaha Challenge will also receive some great prizes courtesy of the Yamaha Motor Company.  The winner of the Clubman category will represent Australia in the 35th Toyota All Japan Championships in November and the Junior National Champion will take home a new Yamaha engine.  There will also be other prizes for the drivers who finish runner-up in each of these categories.

“When the CIK Stars of Karting Series returned to Australian circuits at the start of last year, the number one aim was to provide a series that attracted the best of the best in the one spot and I think we have certainly achieved this goal,” said Series Co-ordinator Peter Galvin.

“Thanks to the support of the Australian Karting Association through the National Karting Council and our series sponsors we have also been able to provide some great incentives for our karters.

“By providing these prizes it gives our competitors opportunities that before would never have been possible for them.  It also assists them with developing as drivers with the aim of one day having Australian karters regularly competing on the world stage again.

“We hope that we can continue to build on the platform that we have in place to continually attract the best karters from all across the country to compete in the series which is more than just another karting event – it’s a marketing tool for the sport.”

Round three of the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE will be hosted by the Go-Kart Club of Victoria in Melbourne on June 17-19.
