THE Hunter’s go-kart community showed off their love for speed, agility and entertainment on the weekend.

More than 150 competitors were drawn to the Newcastle City Cup, held at the Mount Sugarloaf Kart Raceway, to test out their ability on a state-renowned track

Newcastle Kart Racing Club president Tony Stewart said it was good practice in the lead up to the 2014 Australian National Sprint Kart Titles.

“We had 155 entries, which was huge,” he said.

“It was a really good weekend and we had some fantastic racing.”

The national titles will come to the region next Easter from April 18-20.

Mr Stewart said it was a massive honour.

“We had lots of phone calls and interest from around Australia,” he said.

“People are already booking accommodation and making plans for next year.”

More than 500 race entries across ten different categories are expected for the national titles, which were last held in Newcastle in 2001.
